The less you train, the less you can train.

I'm amazed by how quickly I detrained. For the last month I haven't been able to find my legs. 2.5 hr rides seem epic and require a day of rest afterwards. On Saturday I went to ride City Creek canyon for the first time this year. I was some 15 seconds slower than my last year's personal best. Considering that it's only 20-some minutes long I didn't expect to suffer as much, and despite all was looking forward to a new PB. Perhaps it was the wind, because my average power was roughly the same as my PB up Little Cottonwood. Well, the power reading is all that matters.

Based on Andrew Coggan's principle of "the more you train, the more you can train", I decided to start "training" again. Today I gave myself the option of either doing sprints or intervals. I did sprints last Tuesday, so I went with the 1 min interval session. It was only 1 hr and 6 intervals, but boy did it hurt. In case anyone's curious, I do 'em up that little hill toward the south end of Wasatch boulevard (11400 S. 3000 E.?) I'm still a little cross-eyed. Since my power profile seems to indicate a good anaerobic capacity I did my 1 min at 160% of FTP, which is somewhat above the limit prescribed for that kind of work. I had in the past done 10 x 1 min sessions at roughly 145% FTP. Tomorrow I'll give Little Cottonwood a try again. I think I'll do it at about 90% FTP, AKA Sweet Spot, AKA "easy pace to Snowbird".

I know, there's nothing funny in my post. Then again, if you find my training plan particularly hilarious by all means comment away.

Tomorrow I'll start riding around 6 PM. I could do a morning ride Thursday or next week (even days are T & TH again). Since you enjoy climbing you'll have fun up Millcreek.

You are Basque-like my son, so go old school Kelme and bag all the techno stuff and go uphill like a chipmunk chased by a chevy...

Consistency is key. That's why I race every weekend!

Ball Horn, I've seen what happens to chipmunks on canyon roads. It's not my thing.
